Initially announced as the XUV-1, the small XIV-1 concept represents Indian parent company Mahindra's efforts to step out from the shadow of its unpopular Pik-Up ute.
“The XIV-1 focuses on realising a future-oriented design based on our heritage, and is based on our product philosophy of ‘Robust, Specialty, and Premium,” a Ssangyong statement reads.
“We believe that the vehicle, created based on a simple, dynamic and strong aesthetic value, will show the supremacy of our ingenious design,” he added.
Through the SsangYong brand, the $12 billion-dollar Mahindra Group will launch a renewed assault on the global market, with production plans locked in for the XIV-1 and the SUT1 pickup.
SsangYong has already demonstrated its renewed vigour with the launch earlier this year of the new Korando SUV, its styling and new diesel powerplant marking a significant step forward for the brand.
For the XIV-1, SsangYong's designers have looked to the sporting Range Rover Evoque for inspiration, giving the concept a rising beltline and a wraparound glasshouse with pillarless doors and a panoramic glass roof.
