SsangYong's new Korando is far from topping Australia's SUV sales charts, but its styling and technology represent a noteworthy step forward for the South Korean carmaker.

Next month, SsangYong will take another step forward with the unveiling of its Concept XUV 1 in Frankfurt. Described as a compact SUV, the XUV 1 will debut alongside the production version of the SUT 1 pick-up.

Shown here in three shadowy teaser images, the XUV 1 is described as a premium crossover utility vehicle, built to offer "the rugged feel of a full-sized SUV without compromising on running costs."

From the teaser images, the XUV 1 looks to utilise an Evoque-like rising belt-line, and SsangYong says the standout feature of the small SUV will be its wraparound glasshouse and glass roof design.

Interestingly, the concept's name is short for "Excellent User-Interface Vehicle," with most of its cabin functions controlled via mobile devices and 'smart' instruments.

Inside, the XUV 1 will show a versatile seating layout, with the option for a 1+1+2 or 1+3 seating arrangement.

The XUV 1 will make its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Watch this space for more.
