On the same day Ford produced its last cars in Australia, and two days before another Holden victory at our nation’s ‘Great Race’, the Bathurst 1000, a significant chapter in the company’s proud local history came to an end when the final Cruze small car came down the assembly line in Elizabeth, South Australia.
The last car off the line was a SRi-Z hatchback and it, along with the final Cruze sedan, have been donated to the Leukaemia Foundation in SA for auction.
Ending Cruze production means 270 Holden employees will leave the company between now and next month - less than originally forecast as ongoing demand for the Commodore requires strengthening production numbers.
Holden says 67 percent of the 450 employees who have left the company in the past two years have found new jobs and every Holden worker can access transition services including up to $3000 in approved training.
Manufacturing of the Holden Commodore will continue until late next year.
Holden and its nationwide dealer network have more than 10 years supply of Cruze replacement parts and all service and warranty programs will not change as a result of production ending.
Since Cruze first launched in 2011, some 126,255 have been made by Holden in the historic Elizabeth plant.
