Toyota preparing to show off a new concept car, according to trademark filings

In the lead-up to the Tokyo motor show later this month, online sleuths have discovered evidence of what could be a new Toyota concept car.

The online BZ Forums have discovered a trademark application for the 'FT-3e' name, pointing to a new concept from Toyota.

The 'FT' designation – which translates to 'Future Toyota' – has been used on concept cars from the Japanese car giant in years past.

The FT-1 was the precursor to the Supra, the FT-86 was a concept of the Toyota 86, while the FT-AC of 2017 was a preview of the latest RAV4 SUV.

Also shown in 2017 was the FT-4X, which was a preview of a future compact off-road SUV from Toyota – though it's unclear how much influence it will have on the 'LandCruiser mini' that Japanese media reports claim is due next year, which could alternatively be named the Land Hopper, LiteCruiser, or Yaris Cruiser.

While nothing is known yet about the FT-3e, it's thought the last letter could relate to the concept being an electric vehicle.

The Tokyo motor show, officially named the Japan Mobility Show 2023, will run in the final week of October – with Drive on the ground at the event to cover all the latest news.
