Tim Allen to star in new comedy series ‘Shifting Gears’ – report

Real-life car guy Tim Allen will soon star in a new TV show about the owner of a classic car restoration workshop.

A new comedy series about a stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration workshop is currently in pre-production in the US.

Shifting Gears (working title) stars Tim Allen (Toy Story, The Santa Clause, Home Improvement) in the lead role, with Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls, Thor, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) to play his estranged daughter.

As reported by Hollywood tabloid Variety, the sitcom – set to debut on the ABC network in the US – is centred around the character Matt (Allen), and the goings on that occur when his estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her teenage kids move in with him.

Tim Allen is known to be a big car enthusiast, with a large collection including a Ford Mustang GT350, Ford RS200, Shelby Cobra, Jaguar E-Type, Chevrolet Nova, Ferrari 330 GTC, several Porsches, and a rare US-market 1970 Ford Falcon coupe based on the Torino, among others.

The show is written and executive produced by Mike Skully and his wife Julie Thacker-Skully – with Mr Skully previously being a writer on Everybody Loves Raymond, Parks and Recreation, and The Simpsons, and Ms Thacker-Skully producing The Simpsons and Fuller House, more recently.

While a date hasn't been set for the show's debut, the series is currently in pre-production and isn't expected to be aired until late 2024 or sometime in 2025.
