2024 Genesis GV80 price and specs: Model range slashed, entry price up significantly

Genesis has added a sportier 'Coupe' body style to the GV80 line-up for the more expensive facelifted range – now available with one engine and one equipment level.

The price of the cheapest 2024 Genesis GV80 large luxury SUV has climbed to $130,000 plus on-road costs – a $19,800 rise compared to an equivalent model in the outgoing range – to coincide with a facelift and increase in standard equipment.

The GV80 model line-up has been slashed to one engine – a 279kW/530Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 – and a single equipment level, with the Luxury Pack previously a $10,500 option now standard.

It means the entry price into the Genesis GV80 range has soared for a seven-seater.

Compared to the cheapest model 12 months ago – when a four-cylinder petrol engine was available – the base price is now about $30,000 more expensive.

For the updated model, the 204kW/588Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline six-cylinder engine has been dropped, while the base 224kW/422Nm 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder was axed last year.

Genesis has made the Luxury Pack – previously a $10,500 option with a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled second-row seats, a digital instrument cluster, and nappa leather seats – standard across the GV80 line-up.

Buyers can also opt for a six-seat version of the SUV, which replaces the second-row bench seat with captain’s chairs, for $133,000 before on-road costs.

New to the line-up is the Coupe, a sloped-roof version of the large SUV that also loses its third row of seating, priced at $136,000 before on-road costs.

The GV80 Coupe is cheaper than an Audi Q8 (from $138,900), BMW X6 (from $140,900), Porsche Cayenne Coupe (from $146,700), and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe (from $159,900).

Other changes in the revised GV80 SUV line-up include new front and rear bumpers, while the Coupe scores a slightly more aggressive look thanks to dual exhaust outlets, a different front grille finish, and a unique rear spoiler.

Australian GV80 Coupes miss out on the up-rated 305kW/549Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 in overseas markets – with adds a 48-volt supercharger to increase outputs – as it has not been engineered for right-hand-drive vehicles.

Inside, the 2024 GV80 line-up comes standard with a new 27.0-inch OLED screen that encompasses the instruments and infotainment, plus a heated centre armrest, redesigned climate controls, a digital rear-view mirror, and UV steriliser.

These additions to the equipment list join standard features such as a 12-inch head-up display, 22-inch alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, keyless entry, push-button start, 18-speaker sound system, power-adjustable front seats, and power-folding rear seats.

Safety systems include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), driver attention warning, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view monitor.

Unique to the Coupe is a flat-bottom steering wheel and Sport+ driving mode, as well as a Flex Brake feature that firms up the brake pedal for extra feedback, according to Genesis.

The SUV and Coupe also vary in boot storage volume, with the former able to accommodate 735 litres with the third-row folded flat, while the latter can swallow a 644L load.

Folding the second row of seats expands volume to 1097L in the SUV and 1033L in the Coupe.

Matte paint is available as a $2000 option, while the Rear Seat Entertainment pack adds dual rear touchscreens with HDMI input and Netflix functionality for another $4500.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 – branded as a Model Year 2025 vehicle – is available now.
