The Brisbane man bringing muscle cars back to their former glory

The suburb of Brendale at the northern tip of Brisbane is not the place you would expect to find a genuine Muscle Car museum.

Supply trucks, tradie utes and delivery fans trundle down busy South Pine Road every day in the industrial estate, an area filled with warehouses, distribution centres and workshops.

It was by pure accident we located the New Old Car Company. Flanked by a trailer hire company, a petrol station and a swim school, the innocuous looking business caught our eye because of the sun catching glints of steel behind the shop windows.

Hold on, was that that an old GTX we just saw behind that window? This had to be confirmed.

Walking through the doors, we nearly dropped our coffee. Inside was an array of some of the finest Australian and international Muscle Cars you could assemble.

They were meticulously restored, looking showroom ready and fit to bellow the same roar that would have thundered around the race tracks of the 1960s and 70s.

What is this place? Are these classic vehicles up for sale?

The short answer is no. For New Old Car Company director Phill Moschella these vehicles are a labour of love. Some belong to him, others to fellow enthusiasts.

But in the condition that they have been restored, these old beauties need to be in a showroom – on display.

That is the beauty of the New Old Car Company, it operates as an auto museum at the front, while out the back is a sprawling warehouse of panels and parts for other enthusiasts.

As the 60s and 70s draw further back in our rear vision mirror, these parts and panels are getting harder and harder to source.

So Phill and his team search the globe and stockpile the essential parts of a range of Muscle Cars and other classics from yesteryear.

And for the parts they cannot find? New Old Car Company uses revolutionary Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) technology to create them.

Using SLS, the team can take an imperfect, incomplete or damaged sample and reproduce a factory-perfect part.

"We manufacture for muscle cars, GT Falcons, Monaros, Toranas and a few Japanese muscle or rally-related cars," Phill said.

"We manufacture everything they need to restore their cars back to concourse condition - all of the body parts.

"We also have a collection of cars, all classics."

At present, New Old Car Company can provide parts and panels for a range of classics including; Chevrolet Camaro and TI 5, Datsun sedans, utes and Z Cars, Ford Capri, Cortina, Escort, Falcon, Fairlane and Mustang, early Holdens as well as Kingswood and Torana and Toyota Corolla and Hilux.

However, the team can also seek out parts for other makes and models and hope to manufacture for more classic Muscle Cars in the near future.

Phill himself has over 30 years in the industry, including working as a panel beater, which gives him the experience and the skills to bring these cars back to as-new condition.

But more than just service the car enthusiasts, he hopes to inspire a new generation of car lovers to appreciate the power and the beauty of the old muscle cars.

"We have many followers on Facebook, we have grown from strength to strength," Phill said.

"It is getting bigger, this industry, and it is very inviting for the new generation of children."

The New Old Car Company is located at 350 South Pine Road in Brendale, north of Brisbane.
