New Abarth 124 Spider special edition unveiled

Special scorpion celebrates all things Abarth.

Sometimes you feel like celebrating just because.

And that’s the reasoning behind Abarth’s new limited 124 Spider Monza Special Edition that pays tribute to its founder Carlo Abarth and his penchant for going fast.

Matching the limited edition’s name will be a laser etched brushed aluminium plaque mounted into each car, individually number from 1 to 30 and with an outline of Italy’s famous Monza circuit.

Available in only three colours – red, white and black – each paint finish depicts Abarth’s European Rally Championship victories through the 1970s at Turin, Costa Brava and San Marino.

“The legacy of Carlo Abarth has driven the production of some of the world’s most exciting motor vehicles and this Monza Special Edition continues the realisation of his passion,” said director of Abarth Australia, Fulvio Antonelli.

“Equally at home on urban roads as well as on race tracks, the Abarth 124 spider is attracting a new generation of enthusiasts in Australia with its performance, technology, comfort and ease of driving. It combines the authentic roadster experience with exemplary performance, technology, safety and distinctive Italian design.”

The Monza edition also gets a bespoke two-tone red and black leather upholstery with red stitching and Abarth logos on the headrests as well as matching red side mirror caps. The Visibility pack is included that adds automatic led headlamps and daytime running lamps, rear parking sensors, blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert.

The 1.4-litre turbocharged engine remains untouched except for the addition of a Record Monza mechanically-activate dual exhaust that ramps up a dramatic sound from the rear quad-tip exhaust outlets.

Available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, Fiat is running a drive-away promotion through June before pricing goes up to full retail.
