Brisbane motor museum due to open mid-2023

A new motor museum with displays of classic cars, memorabilia and artwork is due to be opened in Brisbane later this year.

Queensland’s capital city is set to gain its own motor museum as construction continues on a dedicated space for Australia’s car and motorcycle history in Brisbane.

The Brisbane Motor Museum will be situated in Banyo – approximately 20 minutes north of the city’s CBD and an hour from the Gold Coast – with its doors due to open to the public mid-2023.

As first reported by The Race Torque, it will be one of more than 50 Australian members of the Australasian Motor Museums Association, joining the Gold Coast Motor Museum as one of Queensland’s only car-centric sites.

According to the Brisbane Motor Museum’s website, the building has two levels for its displays as well as an underground car park to help keep visitor’s vehicles protected in the summer months.

The ground level includes a library and a small number of exhibits in the foyer, while the second floor houses the museum’s main exhibits, a gift shop, cafe and a meeting room for car clubs.

Its main display space will focus on certain car-makers, car clubs celebrating milestones, automotive themes and artworks, with plans to rotate the exhibits every one to four months.

The Brisbane Motor Museum is currently asking car enthusiasts with classic vehicles, memorabilia or artwork to register their interest in displaying their possessions at the Banyo facility, offering loan times from less than three months to one year.

Its owners are also looking for volunteers to help out with the day-to-day operations of the business, which can be found here.
