More than 7000 Mercedes-Benz SUVs recalled in Australia due to fire risk

The fault could cause the 48-volt wiring harness to become lose, leading to an electrical fault, according to the recall notice.

Mercedes-Benz has recalled 7429 examples of its 2019-2022 GLE and GLS SUVs, citing a potential fault with the 48-volt wiring harness.

The affected vehicles are stamped as 2019 to 2022 models.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing issue, the threaded nut securing the 48-volt wiring harness under the driver seat may become loose. If this occurs, it could result in higher than normal electrical resistance within the harness, which could lead to a vehicle fire.

"A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property."
