2024 Volkswagen Tiguan leaked months ahead of official reveal

The new-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has broken cover online months ahead of its planned unveiling, and almost a year before deliveries to customers in Australia are due to begin.

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan has leaked online months before covers are due to formally come off the new-generation SUV, and just days after it was spotted filming for a promotional video overseas.

Images uploaded to Spanish new-car forum Cochespias – first shown on Facebook by MQB-Coding – show the new Tiguan in greater detail than before, with Volkswagen’s best-selling SUV adopting styling cues from recently-facelifted models such as the Golf and T-Cross.

As seen last week, the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is now fitted with an LED light across its full-width grille, as well as daytime-running lights and thinner headlights than the current-generation SUV.

The Cochespias posts also included interior photos of the Tiguan, providing a first close-up look at its cabin.

As previously reported, the Volkswagen Tiguan is not fitted with the controversial touch-sensing steering wheel controls which debuted across top-of-the-range R-Line and R variants in 2019 – instead it reverts back to traditional physical buttons.

Additional changes include a ‘steering column switch’ gear selector – rather than the traditional stick between the driver and passenger – a 15-inch infotainment display (up from 9.2 inches) and a larger digital dash than the current model (10.25-inch).

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in Australia, following the German car-maker’s local division announcing the new-generation SUV will not be sold here with turbo-diesel power.

While the Tiguan plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is on its wishlist for local showrooms – with a claimed electric-only driving range of up to 100km – it is yet to be confirmed for Australia.

The global unveiling of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan will take place in late 2023, with European deliveries of the new-look SUV starting early next year.

The first Australian deliveries of the Volkswagen Tiguan are due to begin in the third quarter (July-September) or fourth quarter (October-December) of 2024.
