2024 Toyota Corolla Cross facelift for Thailand no guarantee for Australia

The Toyota Corolla Cross has been given a styling update in Thailand, where the SUV launched more than three years ago. Plans for Australia are not confirmed – but unlikely.

A facelift for the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross small SUV has been unveiled in Thailand, but it has not been confirmed for Australia – and may never come here.

While the Corolla Cross has only been on sale in Australia for 18 months, it has been in Thai showrooms for three and a half years – since late 2020 – so it is due for an update in that market.

It is unclear if the new design unveiled by Toyota in Thailand – with a restyled bumper and new wheels – will come to Australia when our model is at the same point in its life cycle in early 2026.

The Corolla Cross sold in Thailand is built there – unlike Australian models which are made in Japan – and there are already multiple front-fascia designs for the SUV globally, including a look sold in Japan and select variants in the US.

A number of the features newly added for the Thai market – including LED headlights, a digital instrument cluster and electric parking brake – are already fitted to Australian models.

A Toyota Australia spokesperson told Drive: "We are always looking at opportunities to enhance our model line-up, but we have nothing to announce today."

The front fascia of the updated Corolla Cross is reminiscent of new Lexus models such as the RX, with hexagonal shapes that blend in with the bumper.

The LED headlights are new to Thailand – with scrolling indicators – while it gains new tail-light signatures already seen on Australian models, and a new 18-inch wheel design.

Inside, the Thai model is now fitted with a 10.1-inch touchscreen capable of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, electric parking brake, and USB-C ports.

Top-of-the-range models gain a wireless phone charger, panoramic sunroof, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and low-speed rear autonomous emergency braking – features which were already available in Australia.

Thailand is offered a choice of 1.8-litre petrol and petrol-hybrid engines – compared to the 2.0-litre petrol and petrol-hybrid models offered in Australia.

There is also a new Cement Grey Metallic colour in Thailand.

If the Corolla Cross receives an update in Australia, it is not likely to arrive for at least another year or so – as the SUV is only 18 months into an expected life cycle of six to eight years locally.

The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross facelift is now on sale in Thailand.
