2021 Subaru XV price and specs: Prices rise on mid-life update
Subaru's little adventure wagon has received some new tech to match its new looks, but prices are up across the range.
- 2021 Subaru XV range gets mild facelift and tech upgrades
- Hybrid model now split across two variants
- All models now get X-Mode for increased grip off-road
- New XV priced from $29,960 plus on-road costs to $40,790 plus on-road costs
The 2021 Subaru XV has received its mid-life update, getting a mild facelift and some new driving tech, together with some new variants.
But while Subaru has raised prices for the entry-level XV 2.0i AWD by $450 to $29,690 before on-road costs, higher grades have seen prices increase up to $1170.
The Subaru XV 2.0 Hybrid has now been split across two models: the Hybrid L AWD ($90 cheaper than the outgoing Hybrid model) and the range-topping Hybrid S AWD at $40,790 plus on-road costs.
New for the 2021 update is Subaru's SI-Drive, offering drivers a choice between economical and sportier driving modes via steering wheel controls, adapting engine responsiveness to suit.
Ride and handling has been refined on the new Subaru XV, with new front suspension said to improve comfort and steering response.
Mechanically, however, nothing has changed, with the 2.0-litre non-turbo petrol four-cylinder again offering 115kW/196Nm via a seven-speed CVT automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Hybrid models are delivered slightly less power from the 2.0-litre, with 110kW/196Nm, but with a 12.3kW/66Nm electric motor assisting the transmission.
The entry-level XV 2.0i AWD and 2.0i-L AWD gain power folding mirrors with indicators for 2021, while the mid-range 2.0i Premium AWD now has heated mirrors as well as Subaru's Vision Assist system.
Vision Assist adds a blind spot monitor, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, and front-view monitor.
For those who plan to take their XV off paved roads, the 2.0i-S AWD now has Subaru's X-Mode, offering a choice of different driving modes for either snow and dirt, or deep snow and mud.
Also new for the 2021 XV 2.0i-S AWD is a dual-memory power driver's seat, Vision Assist with additional side-view monitor, piano black interior trim, auto dipping passenger-side door mirror, auto power folding mirrors, and position memory for door mirrors.
While lower variants get SI-Drive, the new XV Hybrid L AWD and Hybrid S AWD get E-Active Shift Control, which automatically changes the vehicle's driving mode based on driving and road inputs.
The Hybrid L AWD also gets X-Mode, Subaru's EyeSight safety system, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with digital radio, rain-sensing wipers, premium cloth upholstery, leather steering wheel and gear shifter, 17-inch alloy wheels, auto headlights, and front LED fog lights.
Moving up to the Hybrid S AWD, and the new range-topping model adds Vision Assist, satellite navigation, a leather accented interior, power driver's seat with memory, heated front seats, auto-dimming rear view mirror, sports pedals, dual zone climate control, and piano black dash trim.
Also standard are illuminated sun-visor vanity mirrors, 'premium' interior trims, self-levelling LED auto headlights, LED daytime-running lights, auto dipping passenger-side door mirror, auto power-folding door mirrors, position memory for door mirrors, electric sunroof, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
