Porsche has unboxed its newest racing toy, the 991-based 911 GT3 Cup.
The lightened and bewinged racer replaces the 997 model, utilising the platform of the all-new 911 coupe and drawing power from a 3.8 litre flat six.
The debut of the new Cup model also points to a new roadgoing 911 GT3 in the not too distant future.
In racing form, the GT3 Cup offers its pilot 338kW of power at 7500rpm, transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed dog box, and adds - for the first time in a Porsche Cup car - paddle shifters.
There's also a new braking system, including 380mm slotted and ventilated rotors up front with six-piston calipers, and four-piston calipers wrapping the rear disks.
“The new 911 GT3 Cup is much easier to drive at the limit. The car is excellently balanced. The new axle geometry is enormously positive for the handling. Apart from that, the new Cup 911 is great fun to drive," Porsche works driver Timo Bernhard says.
