2025 Toyota Camry model range outlined for Australia, price rises likely

The new Toyota Camry will be offered solely with hybrid power – across three model grades – in Australia, but prices are expected to rise.

Price increases are expected to accompany the new 2025 Toyota Camry sedan range when it arrives in Australian showrooms in the second half of 2024, exclusively as a hybrid.

All versions of the new Camry in Australia will use a 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid system, in a choice of three model grades – Ascent, Ascent Sport and SL – with the SX sport-themed variant axed.

As reported last year, overseas Toyota bills the new Camry as an all-new vehicle, but it is just a heavy facelift of its predecessor launched in 2017 – with the same footprint and revised underpinnings, under mostly-new bodywork and a redesigned interior.

Prices are yet to be confirmed for Australia, however, longer lists of standard features across the range means RRPs are expected to increase.

In the current range, the sole petrol-only model is priced from $35,051 plus on-road costs, while prior to a pause on orders for these models last year, hybrid variants were priced from $37,917 to $51,417 plus on-road costs.

The 'fifth-generation' hybrid system combines a familiar 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a more powerful electric motor, smaller and lighter electrical components, and a lighter and more powerful lithium-ion battery replacing the outgoing nickel-metal hydride pack.

Specifications for Australia are yet to be disclosed, however in the US, front-wheel-drive models – set to be the sole choice in Australia – develop 168kW.

The Camry will be the latest, long-running, petrol Toyota nameplate to go hybrid-only in Australia, after the C-HR small SUV, Yaris and Corolla hatchbacks, and Yaris Cross city SUV – in addition to the defunct Prius which was a hybrid from the start.

There is a choice of two front-end styling themes in the US, but Toyota Australia's description of a front grille with "stylish horizontal bars that integrate into a diamond mesh pattern around the outer edges" suggests local examples will mirror LE and XLE (pictured in blue) models overseas.

There are new front and rear bumpers, headlights and tail-lights, as well as subtle changes to the metal around the rear wheels, and the shape of the side windows.

However, the front wheel arches, front and rear door panels, windscreen and rear window all appear to be the same as the outgoing Camry.

Standard features on the entry-level Camry Ascent now include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, 7.0-inch instrument display, fabric seats, dual-zone climate control, six speakers, and a suite of safety features.

Compared to the previous Camry Ascent hybrid, the new model gains a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (rather than wired), blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

Features exclusive to the SL flagship grade include heated and ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable steering column, 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, nine-speaker JBL stereo, head-up display and digital rear-view mirror.

Ascent Sport grades and above add a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while the SL replaces the 7.0-inch instrument display of cheaper versions with a 12.3-inch widescreen.

The 2025 Toyota Camry range is due in local showrooms in the second half of this year.
