A turbocharged SSS performer will headline Australia's Nissan Pulsar range when the five-door hatch joins Nissan's new small car line-up in 2013.
Previewed last year and confirmed by Nissan today, the Pulsar SSS will draw power from the company's 140kW and 240Nm 1.6 litre direct-injected turbo four cylinder engine.
A version of the engine available with the overseas Juke crossover, the SSS' turbo heart should offer buyers a sweet alternative to Hyundai’s Veloster Turbo and the softer Mazda3 SP25.
Nissan Australia’s Product Planning boss Philip Galway has confirmed that the model will be available with six-speed manual and CVT auto transmissions, with a dynamic suspension tune down below.
A pre-production example of the new model was on display at Nissan’s Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) preview event today, featuring unique 17-inch wheels, lower body-extensions and leather trim.
Nissan isn’t discussing price yet, but a low to mid-30s pricetag would give the SSS some breathing space, away from the circa-$40k performance heroes like Volkswagen’s Golf GTI, Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi's Ralliart Lancer and the new Focus ST (among others).
