Can’t wait for for Volvo to wheel out a properly hot Polestar version of its newest large sedan and wagon? Well, the S90 and V90 R-Design may whet your appetite in the interim.
Revealed overnight, the S90 R-Design and V90 R-Design wear a more aggressive bodykit with a deeper front bumper, bigger vents and the deletion of the standard car’s vertical chrome bars from the Swedish marque’s signature “Iron Mark” grille.
Around the side are a set of huge 21-inch alloys with a machined face and black spokes, plus mirror caps painted in matte silver. Rear bumpers and sidesills appear to be unchanged.
The interior features a unique steering wheel design, deeper-bolstered and recontoured front seats, “deco” trim, alloy pedals and an up-spec interior illumination package.
But the R-Design spec is more than just a styling package. The suspension has been retuned to deliver more athletic handling, with firmer spring and damper settings than regular models. Engine outputs, however, remain the same.
A local debut for the S90 range has been confirmed for August this year, however a solid arrival date for the V90 - as well as full specs and pricing for either - has yet to be revealed.
However, with Australia’s high uptake of performance styling packages (M Sport, AMG Sport and S-Line packs are popular options for BMW, Mercedes and Audi), expect the R-Design package to be available on Volvo’s new large-car family when it arrives here.
