Volkswagen’s hot new Golf R 400 concept will be joined at the Beijing Auto Show by a new small four-door coupe concept, the company has revealed.

Details are thin on the ground, although Volkswagen says the new car will have some muscular proportions: shorter than the Jetta sedan, yet wider than the large Passat and CC models.

If these teaser illustrations are anything to go by, we could be looking at the long-rumoured ‘Jetta CC’ that has been the focus of various reports since 2012.

It is clear from these images that the concept will take its cues from Volkswagen’s latest production and concept models, adding a lifestyle-focused option to the Golf and Jetta range.

The renderings also reveal that the new sedan concept will borrow the sweeping profile of its more premium sibling, the new Audi A3 sedan.

Volkswagen says the concept will be powered by a 162kW 2.0 litre turbo engine, suggesting the new GTI’s engine can be found under this sleek sedan’s bonnet.

The company remains quiet on the concept’s specifics, though, so watch for more details to come over the next few days.
