Volkswagen Australia has announced availability of the Tiguan 132TSI Pacific. Priced in-line with the 'regular' 132TSI, the Pacific brings a range of new standard features that you'd normally find on the options list.
What it misses out on however is Volkswagen's seven-speed DSG transmission, with supply issues seeing it replaced in this variant with the older six-speed automatic.
As for features. the Pacific adds dual-zone climate control, automatic headlights, coming-and-leaving lighting, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, front fog-lights, rain-sensing wipers and lit vanity mirrors.
The most significant addition to the standard features list however is Volkswagen's Park Assist 2 package - normally a $1400 option for the 132TSI.
Volkswagen's Park Assist technology is designed to assist drivers not only in parallel parking, but also in perpendicular (90 degree) parking.
With the driver responsible only for prompted use of the accelerator and braking, the Park Assist system will handle the steering duties, slotting the vehicle into - and out of - its space.
Mechanically, the 132TSI remains unchanged, with power delivered by a 2.0 litre petrol engine producing 132kW and 280Nm of torque.
Available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic (rather than the regular seven-speed DSG), the 132TSI is also fitted with Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
The 132TSI lists fuel consumption figures of 8.7 l/100km in manual form and 8.9 l/100km with the automatic.
