Joining similar concepts from Lexus, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Honda, Volkswagen’s new GTI Roadster takes the brand’s sporting 'clothing' to new extremes.
The new concept will be available to Gran Turismo 6 players next month, and a life-size version of the concept will also debut at this weekend’s Worthersee GTI meet in Austria.
‘Powering’ the virtual roadster is a 3.0 litre twin-turbo VR6 petrol engine, churning out a massive 370kW and 665Nm of torque. Volkswagen says the big six is an evolution of the powerplant that motivated last year’s Design Vision GTI concept.
The company claims the Roadster concept’s heart is matched to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch auto and, thankfully, an all-wheel-drive setup.
A 0-100km/h time hasn’t been shared, but with the earlier Design Vision GTI concept boasting a 3.9 second sprint, this new Roadster should be capable of an even quicker run.
The concept’s braking package is equally impressive, featuring 381mm discs at the front and 356mm discs at the rear.
The GTI Roadster sits on large 20-inch alloys, wrapped in 235/35 rubber at the front and wide 275/30 tyres at the rear.
Watch for photos of the ‘real’ concept to appear this weekend.
