Volkswagen Australia has confirmed pricing for the special-edition Golf GTI Edition 35, bringing more power and features to celebrate the badge's 35th birthday.
The Australian-delivered Golf R offers 188kW, while the regular GTI, utilising a different 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine, produces a nice-enough 155kW. In Edition 35 trim, the R-donated engine kicks out 173kW.
Unlike the R however, the special GTI retains its front-wheel-drive layout, with power transferred through a six-speed manual or optional six-speed DSG automatic.
Fuel consumption for the Edition 35 is listed at 8.2 l/100km for the manual model, and 8.3 l/100km for the DSG.
On the styling front, the GTI Edition 35 gets unique 'Watkins Glen' 18x7.5-inch alloy wheels, the recently updated GTI headlights with daytime running LEDs, dark LED taillights from the Golf R and tinted windows.
The grille and wing mirrors get a piano-black finish, and there's a '35' badge on each front quarter panel.
Tweaks in the cabin include a golf-ball shaped gearshift grip, '35' logos on the seatbacks and and door sills, and a unique honeycomb trim pattern in place of the usual tartan fabric.
In Australia, the Edition 35 will be offered in Candy White, Tornado red (both gloss), along with a pearl-effect Deep Black and the metallic Deep Grey.
