The 2014 Honda City is now on sale in Australia, priced from $15,990 plus on-roads for the VTi variant.

The entry-level VTi manual model is $500 cheaper than the outgoing version, while pricing rounds-out at $21,390 plus on-roads for the range-topping VTi-L automatic.

Fuel consumption from the 1.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engine has improved from 6.3 l/100km in the manual and 6.6 in the auto, to 5.8 for the manual and 5.7 l/100km for the new ‘seven-speed’ CVT.

For two of the three local mainstream carmakers, it was a mixed week…

Both Holden and Ford posted huge financial losses in 2013; a result of significant write-downs and redundancy costs associated with their impending exits from Australian manufacturing.

Holden had at least one reason to celebrate this week however, when its one millionth High-Feature V6 rolled off the production line.

Walkinshaw Performance has turned its attention to the healthy commercial pickup sector in Australia, announcing two after-market packages for the Holden Colorado.

Both ‘High-Rider’ and ‘Low-Rider’ packs are available, with any 2WD or 4WD Colorado built during or after 2012 eligible for the upgrade.

Each kit is priced at $6990 which includes fitting, while a set of daytime running lights can be added for an additional $795.

In other news, Audi’s S3 Sedan performer is now on sale in Australia, priced from $62,200 plus on-roads.

The 2014/15 federal budget was handed down this week, with news of generous road infrastructure spending accompanied by confirmation that fuel excises are set to rise.

It was a busy week for the TMR spy photographers, with the Civic Type R, Porsche Cayman ‘GT4’, Hyundai ix35, Hyundai Veloster upgrade and a new Suzuki SUV all spotted.

Renault confirmed its new Megane RS 275 hot hatch will be heading to Australia, with just 100 units set to arrive from Q3 this year.

General Motors accepted a US$35 million fine this week over the ‘Switchgate’ ignition switch scandal, which to date has been linked with 13 deaths.

Skoda announced a new capped-price servicing structure for its Australian customers, with changes and inclusions for the new Yeti and Rapid Spaceback models.

Two special edition Fiats will soon be in Australian showrooms, in the form of the Tricolore 500 and Tricolore Freemont.

Nissan teased its 370Z Nismo update this week, before revealing the 2015 model at the ZDayZ enthusiast meet in the US.

Queensland road toll figures released this week point to a potential five-year low, while six of the seven remaining Australian states and territories are up on last year.

FIA Formula E teams took delivery of their first electric racers this week, ahead of the season-opening Chinese round in September.



The 2014 Toyota Corolla Sedan Ascent graced the TMR garages this week, and we found the entry-level small sedan offered a nice drive with enough space for a small family.
