The Chevrolet Spark, sold in Australia as the Holden Barina Spark, makes its US-market debut this week. With it comes a set of styling tweaks that separate the American model from the Australian-delivered offering.

Among the design changes are a new front bumper with a one-piece intake and foglight housing, adding large chrome highlights at the front and new taillight internals at the rear.

Power for the US-market Spark comes from the same 1.2 litre engine featured in the Australian model, but while ours is already well-equipped with six airbags, American buyers will get an extra four as standard equipment.

The Chevrolet Spark also benefits from a seven-inch colour touchscreen, powered by GM's "MyLink" infotainment system, which is not available in Australia.

In Australia, the Barina Spark has not ignited massive market interest, despite its above-par standard equipment package.

Year to date, Holden has moved 3433 Sparks, compared to 7956 units of the Nissan Micra and 3618 units of the older but still popular Suzuki Alto.

Whether we'll see an updated styling (and feature?) package for the Barina Spark in the near future is unclear. TMR has contacted Holden Australia for details.
