American performance tuner Saleen has turned its attention to an electric vehicle for the first time, teasing its first-ever EV.
Based on the Tesla Model S, the as-yet unnamed model will offer “mechanical enhancements” and a host of exterior features above and beyond the regular Model S.
Performance should therefore better the already-impressive 4.2 second 0-100km/h time, although whether Saleen will raise the electronically controlled 130mph (208km/h) top speed - designed to preserve battery life - is unclear.
These teaser sketches reveal much more aggressive front styling than the Model S, a lower ride height, large black alloy wheels and a rear wing.
A new front bumper and grille disguise the Model S’s Tesla origins well, and the pictures indicate that a cherry-red paint finish may be the colour of choice.
Inside, the Saleen version gets leather and Alcantara trim with red stiching and Saleen logos on the seats.
Saleen’s first EV performance car is scheduled to debut during the Australian winter, with pricing and specifications for its home market in the US market yet to be announced.
