Spy photos of a heavily disguised Suzuki hatch in recent weeks suggest the carmaker is preparing a hatch companion for the small Alivio sedan that debuted in Beijing earlier this year.

A new pair of renderings from independent artist Theophilus Chin offer a convincing look at what we might see when the camouflage comes off that new hatch, but can we expect to see it in Australia?

The carmaker already offers the low-set S-Cross small SUV in Australia, but a conventional hatch that can take on models like the Toyota Corolla remains absent from the Suzuki range.

Suzuki’s local arm is known to be interested in the Alivio sedan, but for now the new small car is intended for the Chinese and Indian markets only.

This new hatch could have greater potential on the global stage, however, with small five-door offerings proving hugely popular in most markets.

Suzuki has confirmed in recent months that it intends to launch a new model every year to the end of this decade - including the newly revealed Vitara SUV - but it is unclear which of these new offerings will come to Australia.

But, like the Vitara in the vital small-SUV market, this new hatch could prove crucial for Suzuki’s growth globally and here in Australia.

Watch for details on the new model to surface in the coming months.
