Mercedes confirmed back in July that the new model was coming, and spy photos in recent months have offered a clear view of what we can expect.
The new small wagon won’t offer much in the way of surprises, visually, with the familiar CLA face matched to a rear that is one part CLA and one part CLS.
These renderings from independent artist Theo Chin offer a revealing look at what is likely to lie beneath the camouflage of those spied prototypes.
Details of the new model are still to be revealed, although we can likely expect the CLA Shooting Brake to offer a relatively spacious cargo area, although it likely won’t be as capacious as the new C-Class Estate.
The wagonised CLA is expected to enter production in 2015 as the fifth model in Mercedes’ compact A-Class family.
Confirmation of the CLA Shooting Brake also follows Mercedes’ announcement that it will launch 10 all-new models between 2012 and 2020.
Other models in that plan have included the larger CLS Shooting Brake, along with the CLA sedan and the GLA SUV.
Expect the CLA Shooting Brake to mirror the general styling and technology of its platform mates, including an eventual ‘45 AMG’ hero model.
