Porsche’s 458 Fighter No Closer

Porsche’s rumoured ‘988’, conceived as a rival to the Ferrari 458, is reportedly no closer to production than when it first hit headlines in 2011.

Positioned as a super-premium offering that would sit between the 911 range and the nearly sold-out 918 Spyder hero, the so-called 988 is the dream of Porsche boss Matthias Müller.

The new supercoupe was expected to draw power from a mid-mounted 4.0 litre eight-cylinder engine delivering around 450kW.
