Jaguar’s new F-Type roadster will be the first of several new models launched over the next five years, including a replacement for the X-Type, according to new reports this week.

Automobile mag reports that the recently unveiled F-Type roadster will spawn the expected hardtop, along with all-wheel-drive and an RS flagship.

New versions of the XK coupe and convertible, XF sedan and wagon, and XJ limousine are expected to arrive by the end of 2017.

A brand-new addition to the line-up is also expected, in the form of a new midsizer - filling the void left by the departure of the slow-selling X-Type in 2009 - to tackle the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class ranges.

Currently termed ‘project X760’, the likely rear- and all-wheel-drive model is tipped to arrive in sedan form in 2015, ahead of a crossover version in 2016.

The new midsizer is expected to use Jaguar/Land Rover’s Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA), proving the flexibility of this platform which currently underpins the much larger XJ sedan and new Range Rover flagship SUV.

Jaguar will reportedly not use this platform for the next XK model, favouring a slightly enlarged version of the current model’s aluminium structure, with more powerful engines higher pricing to distance the range from the F-Type.

The next-generation XF (codenamed X260) will reportedly continue in sedan and Sportbrake bodystyles, whereas the next XJ (X360) is expected to include distinct high and higher-grade versions, with the possibility of a four door coupe bodystyle also joining the range.

If this report proves correct, Jaguar is set to offer a more diverse lineup than ever before - highlighting the confidence of parent company Tata Motors in the historic brand.
