Mitsubishi’s Attrage sedan, revealed for overseas early last year, is on its way to Australia as the new Mirage sedan.

Joining the existing Mirage light hatch, the new sedan is set for an Australian launch in July, although specific details are still to be confirmed.

The new model, confirmed as part of Mitsubishi’s dealer and press briefing this week, was first declared ‘on the radar’ for Australia last year.

As a light sedan, the Mirage sedan shares most of its underpinnings and components with the existing hatch, including the 57kW/100Nm 1.2 litre three-cylinder petrol engine.

The Mirage sedan is offered in Thailand - where it is also manufactured - with five-speed manual and CVT automatic transmissions, just as the Mirage gets in Australia.

But, despite its shared components, the Mirage sedan is noteably larger than its hatch sibling.

At 4245mm, the new sedan is a whopping 535mm longer than the hatch, while weighing in at just 901kg in manual form.

The extra length also gives the sedan a more capacious rear storage space, offering 450 litres - compared to 235 in the Mirage hatch.

The Mirage Sedan’s storage space still falls short of its competitors however, with the new Honda City sedan offering 536 litres in the rear. The Nissan Almera offers 490 litres.

Watch for more details on the Australian Mirage sedan range to land in the coming weeks.
