The little MINI Cooper's Rolls-Royce makeover was revealed in April last year, carrying the history-soaked Inspired by Goodwood name.

With both companies forming part of the larger BMW family, the collaboration between the two British brands came as no surprise.

Well, maybe a little - but with Aston Martin also overhauling the decidedly more 'econobox' Toyota iQ, Rolls-Royce teaming up with MINI could be the next step in a new trend.

Now, a year later, the little black number is on display in the windows of that other beacon of British excess, Harrods.

Celebrating the first customer deliveries of the Inspired by Goodwood, the display includes one of the actual production cars sitting in front of a classic English manor.

Behind the display, shoppers can touch samples of the materials used in the makeover, and also view footage of the vehicle.

"The store attracts an average of 42,000 visitors every day from over 130 different countries every month," Harrods’ director of media sales, Guy Cheston said.

"What better place than Harrods to showcase the most luxurious production MINI has ever built to a truly global audience".

About The Car

The MINI Inspired by Goodwood is based on the sports-focused Cooper S, powered by the same 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 135kW and 240Nm of torque. The 0-100km/h run is put away in 7.0 seconds.

It's on the styling front that the Rolls-tweaked MINI is set apart from the pack, gaining unique interior and exterior luxury features.

On the outside, the short-run MINI gets a choice of the exclusive Diamond Black metallic paint, or the optional Reef Blue metallic.

The corners are propped up by multi-spoke 17-inch wheels, while a series of unique badges make its origins clear.

Unlike the regular Cooper S, the MINI Inspired by Goodwood foregoes the lary bonnet scoop in search of a classier look.

Inside is where the true Rolls Royce touches are found. Rolls' exclusive 'Cornsilk' colour has been applied throughout, including the dash and fittings, the Lounge leather seats, the centre console, carpet, roof lining and body pillars.

The dashboard and inside door handles are finished in Walnut Burr veneers, and there's a black Nappa leather dashboard trim, leather Cornsilk door linings, a gloss black finish for the buttons and a Cashmere roof lining.

The instrument readouts are also treated to a Rolls Royce-inspired font, and the floor mats? Lambswool.

Standard features include Xenon adaptive headlights, park-distance control, automatic air conditioning, MINI's on-board computer for service reminders, and the Radio MINI Visual Boost with Harman Kardon speakers.

Of the 1000 cars scheduled, just 10 of the special Coopers have been made available for Australia, each priced at $74,500 before on-road costs.

It won't surprise you to learn that, for the promise of a touch of Rolls-Royce at a fraction of the price, all 10 have been snapped up.
