MASERATI ALFIERI COUPE
Maserati’s promised new coupe concept, bound for this week’s Geneva Motor Show, has surfaced online today.
Revealed here in a pair of leaked images, the concept offers a glimpse at what Maserati describes as “a nod to the styling of Maseratis over the next 100 years”.
According to website OmniAuto, the concept will be known as the ‘Alfieri’ - named for two of the seven Maserati brothers - and it is likely our first look at the company’s long-coming GranTurismo coupe replacement.
Note: There were two Alfieri brothers in the Maserati family, the second named for the first that passed away early in life. (Maserati.com.au)
The Alfieri’s appearance marks an ultra-exotic step forward from the only recently launched Quattroporte and Ghibli sedans, borrowing from the brand’s rich history while also previewing a bold future look.
The photos, obtained by enthusiast site Jalopnik, showcase a powerful design with classic proportions and that iconically wide-open Maserati grille.
The broad mouth is flanked by sharp headlights that lead back into the wheel arches, while a long bonnet reaches up to a compact glasshouse.
The roofline terminates at a tall cliff-faced rear deck, where familiar Maserati tail-lights emerge from deep cooling vents in the rear bumper.
A pair of simple, classic exhaust tips round out the retro look.
We can likely expect the Alfieri to replace the ageing GranTurismo coupe, but the ‘when, where and how’ of it all is yet to be revealed.
Watch for more details to surface in the coming hours.
