Called the Regera, the new model promises to be one of Koenigsegg’s best efforts to date, as this particular carmaker is unlikely to throw the term ‘megacar’ around to describe one of its tamer offerings.
But can the Regera match or even better the already-insane Koenigsegg One:1 (pictured, top of page)?
The One:1 gets its name from a one-to-one ratio for metric horsepower and weight, with figures of 1340PS (987kW) and 1340kg respectively.
Not only can the One:1 accelerate from 0-100km/h in around 3.0 seconds, Koenigsegg says it will hit 400km/h in just 20 seconds on its way to a top speed north of 420km/h.
It’s hard to fathom, therefore, that the Swedish carmaker has already produced a new model that can make the One:1 look like last week’s newspaper.
While the carmaker has revealed nothing to date about the Regera’s performance figures, the name in Swedish translates to ‘reign, ‘rule’ or ‘govern’.
If the Regera can better the One:1 on acceleration and the power output from its 5.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8, the hypercar world may have a new champion - relegating the Ferrari FXX K and incoming McLaren P1 GTR to the lower steps of the podium.
Joining the Regera in Geneva will be a powered-up version of the Agera R (pictured, above) called the Agera RS.
Two better-than-average efforts from Koenigsegg at the same motor show? We can hardly wait…
