British magazine Auto Express is reporting that the Big Cat will build an SVR version of its new XE, featuring a 365kW supercharged 5.0 litre V8.
Rumours of a V8 XE have circulated for some time, but most centred around a luxury flagship model rather than an all-out performance saloon.
The V8 will reportedly be the same unit currently available in Jaguar’s F-TYPE roadster, which boasts a 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds and top-speed limited to 250km/h.
These figures compare to the BMW M3’s 317kW from its twin-turbo 3.0 litre inline six, with a 0-100km/h time of 4.1 seconds when matched with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
While targeted acceleration figures for the XE SVR are unknown, Jaguar can always turn to its more powerful 404kW V8 from the F-TYPE Coupe if performance falls short of the mark.
Like the BMW, Jaguar is said to be looking to an automatic version for optimum acceleration in the hot XE; in this case, an eight-speed unit programed for faster shifts.
The Jaguar XE SVR is said to arrive in UK showrooms in early 2016, priced from £60,000 (AU$107,000). The 'regular' model is set for a world premiere in London on September 8.
