The boss of Hyundai's American operations John Krafcik has confirmed the company is considering a new model in the hugely popular compact crossover segment. 

Speaking at an event in the US this week, Krafcik said that while Hyundai has "a bunch" of hatch and sedan models, the carmaker is under-represented in the SUV game. 

In Australia, Hyundai currently offers only the small ix35 - the top-selling model in its segment - and the large new Santa Fe SUV.
