Honda will display the first of its new Earth Dreams engines at March's Geneva Motor Show - its new 1.6 litre diesel.

Arriving as the first of five new powertrains, the 88kW and 300Nm four-cylinder diesel engine will enter production in the coming year.

The new engine will join Honda's updated 2.2 litre diesel engine in the international Civic Hatch, although it is expected that only the 2.2 will come to Australia when the five-door arrives in 2013.

Honda says the new diesel will be the lightest in its class, with CO2 emissions listed at below 100g/km.

By comparison, the 1.6 litre turbodiesel in Volkswagen's Golf Bluemotion delivers 77kW and 250Nm of torque, and lists CO2 emissions at 99g/km.

Honda says its Geneva display will also include the new NSX concept - this time with the Honda name replacing the Detroit Auto Show's Acura badge.

Also on display will be the European version of the new CR-V (don't expect many styling changes), the recent EV-STER sports concept, and new Jazz variants for the European market.
