Unlike the recently revealed Golf GTI Edition 35 however, neither of these cars is scheduled for a production debut, with both described as design studies built to impress the showgoing crowds.
Golf R Cabriolet Concept
Apart from the absent roof, the Golf R Cabriolet concept is largely identical to its three-door and five-door production counterparts.
Under the bonnet, the story remains the same. Power is provided by the regular Golf R's 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine, offering the car's full European-tune 199kW and 350Nm of torque.
In Australia, our warmer climate moved Volkswagen to detune the R to 188kW and 330Nm of torque.
Volkswagen says the R Cabriolet concept will hit 100km/h in 6.0 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.
Setting the cabriolet apart from the Golf R hatch is a suspension arrangement that sees it sit 25mm lower to the ground, along with a 432mm vented brake package.

Volkswagen has also slapped its iconic GTI badge on the new Golf Cabriolet, while also adding a number of unique enhancements that the regular GTI goes without.
Up front, the GTI Cabriolet gets a modified bumper with additional aero components, along with bolt-on flares and skirts along the side.
At the rear, the hot cabrio gets a unique honeycomb diffuser design, and custom rhombus-shaped exhaust tips. The Golf R's LED taillights are also featured, and special five-spoke black and silver wheels prop up each corner.
Power is provided by the same detuned 175kW Golf R-sourced 2.0 litre engine that features in the limited GTI Edition 35.
Speaking with TMR, Volkswagen Australia's Karl Gehling confirmed that the Golf Cabriolet will go on sale in Australia later this year, with pricing and specifications to be confirmed closer to launch.
He added that Volkswagen does not expect any issues with offering the recently-updated folding hardtop Eos alongside the new Golf Cabriolet in the small Australian market.
