Ford’s rumoured successor to the famous GT40 and GT performance heroes may be a reality, if a leaked motor show diagram is to be believed.

Autospies has stumbled upon what it claims is a floorplan for this week’s Detroit Auto Show, outlining the placement of vehicles within the Ford stand.

A central stage containing what would likely be a feature car for the display can be seen, with the designated model (or more likely, concept) called “Phoenix”.

Phoenix - whatever it may be - is flanked by both a GT40 and a GT, strongly suggesting that a new GT model of some description is about to be previewed or unveiled.

Beyond the leaked diagram, rumours of a new GT have persisted for much of the near decade-long void since the last model was available.

Those rumours were strengthened last year when reports emerged suggesting Ford would revive the GT in time for a 2016 debut - or 50 years since the GT40’s first Le Mans victory.

A new GT could also give rise to another racing version, likely to return to Le Mans in 2016 to defend the honour of its forefather.

A separate report also predicted the new GT’s arrival at the Detroit show, to be joined by the Mustang Shelby GT350 R - a hotter version of the GT350 seen at the LA Auto Show.

The diagram shows us a reserved space for Ford’s F-150 Raptor (the 'EcoBeast'?) and a car called “Hummingbird 2”; believed to be the Shelby GT350 R.
