FORD FOCUS RS
The Ford Focus RS is now available in Australia. While that is good news, the bad news is that reports in the past year have suggested that the current-generation Focus RS will be the last.
Although Ford has recently revealed a preview of its upcoming 2011 Ford Focus ST - the RS's less-powerful sibling - this may be the first and last opportunity for Australian buyers to get their hands on one of Ford of Europe's most exciting models.
With only 315 units available in the Australian market, its 'future legend' status is all but assured - although its $59,990 price tag (Manufacturer's List Price) may deter all but the most serious of collectors and the most loyal of Ford fans.
The second-generation Ford Focus RS is available in just one specification level, along with three exterior colours: Ultimate Green, the signature colour of the latest Focus RS; Performance Blue, the colour of the original Focus RS; and Frozen White, a classic RS colour.
With 224kW and 440Nm generated by Ford's 2.5 litre Duratec five-cylinder turbocharged engine, the Focus RS dispatches the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.9 seconds.
Suspension and handling is managed by Ford's innovative RevoKnuckle front-suspension system and Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing limited-slip differential. Braking is covered by 336mm ventilated front and 300mm rear brakes.
Pricing
The Ford Focus RS is priced at $59,990 (Manufacturer's List Price.)

Wonder how many we'll get ere'.
Big news for the hot hatch market!
Matt: article says 315 :)
Thanks Ford! And the pricing seems just about right.
Haha just a stunt by ford to rip customers off. Called Ford, 1 allocation per dealership, with highest bidder getting the car, i got quoted $84k for a front wheel drive focus RS...no thanks. cant believe there are pl out there prepared to buy this car for that much...
VW golf R is cheaper and faster.. i really don't see the point of this.. they got here a little too late..
VW golf R are serious? Mate do your homework the Golf R has no chance with this Focus RS. Focus RS is the King of Hot Hatches!
Yeah, in every comparison I have read, the Golf R finishes a distant third behind the Focus RS and Megane RS250. It has neither the power nor chassis dynamics to be competitive at all but I don't think that is what the Golf R is about.
sammy what the hell are you on about? They are $59,990 plus on roads? a limited number will make is a very collectable vehicle
cant u read mate? they say its 59990 but in reality the dealerships are charging whatever customers are willing to pay for it, thats why when i called up they quoted me 84k (its like an ebay auction). Call up ford and see what im on about...
I don't really need to because I work at a Ford dealership and we are selling ours for what Ford are offering. Newsflash, not all dealers are out to get you!
Ok, so If I offered you a 10k deposit on one RIGHT now, you would sign me up for $59,950 ex taxes? I've called around to 6 dealerships in Brisbane, and they're all pushing $72-80k...... You want it, pay for it was one of the responses I got...
Lu, the point is choice. Not everyone wants to own a Golf, and its not late at all.
Would be worth looking at if it was AWD. Not a lot faster than the XR5 Turbo but a lot more money... .
Lets not forget the potential of the new focus when it gets released. The new XR5 will contain the ECO boost engine and providing they don't tone it down too much the power values should be around 200KW (like the MPS). It would then be a hell of a lot cheaper for 90% of the performance.
It depends on your definition of "performance". If you are only talking about engine power then you are right. If you include the ability to get the power to the road, braking, cornering, power out of a corner, drivability, etc, then I think the RS is still far in front of a XR5 with a different engine.
It's the same engine mate. But has better suspension, different pistons, better turbo, bigger radiator, RevoKnuckle, etc, etc... But the engine is exactly the same!
Attention Opel - Now THATS how you do hatchback!!!!
You're kidding, right? The Focus interior is badly dated and the exterior is as OTT as the new HSV stuff. The last Astra Coupe/GTC revived a dead segment, along with Volvo's C30, with VW releasing Scirocco and Renault copying with the new Megane Coupe. But Opel have trumped them all with this, it is simply stunning. I can't wait to see how it drives. I've been hanging out to see the Megane RS250 but before I've had a chance, this has just blown them all away, at least in terms of styling.
A nice piece of WRC if you can get it, and how come Aus does not get the Citroen C4 homologation version of Sebastian?
ANOTHER AUSSIE RIP-OFF IM A HUGE FORD FAN, BUT THEY SELL FOR $25,000 POUNDS OVERSEAS WHICH IS $41,000 AUS HERE YET THEY WANNA SELL THEM @ $59,990 WHAT A RIP-OFF!!
I agree totally with you. I have got the amazing orange 2010 Ford Focus XR5 Turbo with only 12,000k and I love it. I have been doing some research into swapping the two cars, but the price is outrageous. I can't believe they are charging $59,995 to buy in Australia and it only cost ?????????41,000 if you buy from the UK!! Crazy!! Still a pretty sh**t hot car that I would love to own. They say they are only going to make 300 or so but I have no dought that will change and they will be more available in the near future.
Hey Damian, where did you go to school? 41,000 pounds is almost $66,000 at current exchange rates, so we are getting it way cheaper than in the UK. 315 will be the cap because the new Focus is just around the corner and they have probably already stopped making them. I imagine we got our ADR spec models at the very end of the production run, before they started to retool.
