HOT ON THE HEELS of this week's unveiling at detroit, our new renderings offer a look at what might lay ahead for the 2011 Ford Focus.
A staple of the Focus range since its launch in 1998, a three-door model is likely to join the line-up around a year after the third generation Focus five-door hatch and sedan hit showrooms.
Although Ford offers the current generation three-door Focus in regular, ST and RS form overseas, only the five-door ST is available in Australia as the XR5 Turbo.
Whether the three-door model would be offered locally, in regular or 'hot hatch' trim, remains to be seen.
Also available in overseas markets is a wagon version of the current generation Focus, and our rendering (below) previews the likely styling of the new third generation Ford Focus wagon.
Featuring the same 'Kinetic' styling as its hatch and sedan siblings, the Focus wagon will likely feature hints of the Mondeo wagon - itself due for an update in the next year.
In regular spec, the Focus three-door and wagon models would likely be powered by the same direct-injected 1.6 litre petrol and Duratorq diesel engines as its five-door sibling, along with the brand new direct-injected 2.0 litre petrol engine with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT).
In XR5 Turbo trim, the Focus will likely draw power from Ford's turbo-charged 2.0 litre EcoBoost engine - also scheduled to join the Ford Falcon range next year and the Volvo line-up later this year.
The 2.0 litre EcoBoost engine develops 205kW and 379Nm of torque in concept form, compared to the current XR5 Turbo's 165kW turbo-charged 2.5 litre Duratec engine.
