Actor Paul Walker, star of the hit cinema franchise 'The Fast & The Furious', was killed this weekend in a car crash that also took the life of friend Roger Rodas, a former racing driver.
Walker, 40, was attending an event in California for his charity group Reach Out Worldwide, working to raise money for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
The crash is understood to have occurred after Walker joined Rodas as passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT. Witness reports describe the car spinning out of control and colliding with a pole and tree.
Footage from the scene shows the vehicle completely destroyed and in flames. We have elected to not include this footage with our article.
A statement from Walker's publicist on Sunday confirmed the tragic news.
"It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide," said the statement, published to Walker's Facebook page.
"He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives."
Away from Hollywood, Walker was known as a capable motoring enthusiast with a cheerful and approachable personality.
Walker is survived by his 15 year-old daughter Meadow, and her mother - Walker's ex-partner - Rebecca. Rodas is survived by his wife Kristine and their two children.
Walker's co-stars shared their feelings online this week:
