The new DS 5LS (‘DS, 5 series, Luxury Sedan’) stretches the hatch’s length from 4530mm to 4700mm, but it is slightly shorter and narrower, measuring 1500mm and 1840mm respectively.
As part of Citroen’s push to make the DS range a stand-alone, upmarket brand, the DS 5LS features virtually no Citroen identification, aside from one badge at the rear.
Power comes from the same 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that drives other DS variants, making either 115kW as per the DS5 in Australia or the more powerful 147kW output seen here in the DS3 and DS4.
The DS 5LS will only be available in front-wheel-drive with a six-speed automatic transmission.
As shown in the video (above), front styling harks back to the original Citroen DS, and is set to become the new ‘face’ of the DS brand to distinguish it from ‘regular’ Citroens.
Interior features also mirror much of what the DS5 hatch has to offer, including the distinctive ‘watch-strap’ leather seats.
Built exclusively in Citroen’s Chinese factory in Shenzen, the new DS 5LS is set to go on sale to the Chinese market in March 2014.
While sales will only target China for now, Citroen hasn’t ruled out expanding to other markets in the future.
