Race driver John Martin will take his place on the grid at the Le Mans 24 Hours this weekend, joining Ryan Briscoe and Jason Bright as the third Australian driver in the iconic enduro.

Driving the #26 G-Drive Racing LMP2 car, Martin set the fastest time for his class during the night qualifying sessions, and the second-fastest time in LMP2 overall.

In fact, the top three fastest cars in LMP2 are all powered by the same Nismo-tuned VK45DE 4.5 litre V8 as Martin's race car, with lap times between 3:38.6 and 3:40.5.

However, despite being less than one second off the pace of the fastest car in LMP2, Martin believes there's potential for even greater speed:

"Honestly, I could have done an even better lap on my third attempt," Martin said.

"I didn’t drive very much during the Test Day and evening practice session. I’m still discovering several aspects and I’m using my experience from last year.

"The lap times look good, but I think we can still improve the car for the race. That’s a good thing, because it means we still have a good margin for improvement.”
