Chinese light-commercial brand, Great Wall, introduces the first of its new offerings - the Steed - in a return to Australia as part of a new factory-backed operation.

From launch the Steed will be offered as a dual-cab utility, with a three-variant range incorporating petrol and diesel 4x2 and diesel 4x4 options.

To cement itself as a value-oriented offering the Steed comes highly equipped with standard features including climate control, leather-look trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and a powered driver's seat.

On the outside the new-look Steed provides side steps, a rear sports bar, integrated tubliner, LED tail lights, front fog lights, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Dimensions are larger than the V200 ute the Steed replaces, with an extra 305mm of length overall, of which 155mm is devoted to the cargo bed.

Under the bonnet the petrol Steed employs a 2.4 litre petrol engine producing 100kW and 205Nm matched to a five-speed manual. The diesel engine is a 2.0 litre unit providing 110kW and 310Nm paired with a six-speed manual.

The 4x4 diesel features a push-button dual-range transfer case from Borg Warner, while the standard stability control system is supplied by Bosch.

Towing capacity is rated at 2000kg, and the payload at 1010kg for the petrol and 1020kg for the diesel. Ground clearance for all variants is listed at 171mm.

Pricing

The Great Wall Steed will be offered with introductory driveaway with the 4x2 petrol priced at $24,990, the 4x2 diesel at $26,990, and the 4x4 diesel at $29,990. The sole option available is a touchscreen head unit incorporating satellite navigation and a reversing camera for $1000.
