New images purportedly previewing the refreshed 2016 Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series have surfaced online, revealing a host of styling tweaks.

The new shots, posted to the Facebook page of the Baniyas Cars dealership in Abu Dhabi - a key market for the LandCruiser - add further credence to the authenticity of Japanese training documents that appeared online in May.

Today’s leak brings its own surprise, however, revealing a detailed look not only at the 2016 LandCruiser’s styling, but also a significant upgrade to the Lexus LX.

Based on the 200 Series, the current third-generation LX first appeared in 2007, around the same time as the LandCruiser.

The LX was last given a styling update in 2012, when it picked up a handful of minor tweaks to bring the big SUV in-line with the look of the Lexus brand’s latest ‘spindle’ grille-wearing models.

This latest update reveals a far more comprehensive change, encompassing an all-new look at both ends, along with a re-shaped D-pillar and a completely revised cabin. See our comparison images in the attached galleries: LandCruiser, Lexus NX.

There can be little doubt that these changes are intended to make the LX more competitive with the the big Nissan Patrol-based Infiniti QX80.

The updated LX should hit Australia in late 2015 or early 2016, while the QX80 will touch down in the next few months.

The refreshed 200 Series is expected to land here around the same time as the LX, following local launches for the upgraded Prado and the all-new HiLux.
