Ford Australia has today confirmed a number of key details for its updated 2015 Falcon range, including model names and new features.

The final Falcon, to be known as the ‘FG X’, will be offered in six trim grades: Falcon, Falcon G6E and G6E Turbo, through to the sporting XR6, XR6 Turbo and the reborn XR8.

In ute form, models on offer will include the Falcon Cab Chassis, Falcon Styleside box, Falcon XR6 Cab Chassis, Falcon XR6 Styleside box and Falcon XR6 Turbo Styleside box.

As with the Territory upgrades confirmed today, Ford has added a number of important new features to the 2015 Falcon range.

Standard with all models will be Ford’s SYNC 2 infotainment system with voice control, along with DAB+ digital radio with dual antennas, wi-fi hot spot and new alloy wheels.

The G6E and XR models will build on those features with the additon of rain-sensing wipers.

Upgraded safety across the range includes front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera (sedan only), and Emergency Assistance communication.

These join existing safety features that front/side/thorax airbags, Emergency Brake Assist, anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution and Dynamic Stability Control.

The base Falcon rolls on 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, while the G6E gets new-design 18-inch alloys. G6E Turbo and XR6 Turbo models get 19-inch alloys.

These details follow the release in recent weeks of the updated Falcon’s exterior design, revealing new front- and rear-end styling that brings the range further in-line with Ford’s global family.

 

Engine Options

Depending on the model, the 2015 Falcon’s engine range will again include four- and six-cylinder mills, along with an eight-cylinder option in the newly returned XR8 model.

The standard engine in the base Falcon is the warhorse 195kW/391Nm 4.0 litre I6, while the 2.0 litre 179kW/353Nm EcoBoost and 198kW/409Nm 4.0 litre EcoLPi LPG will be available as options.

The G6E will be offered in standard form with the 195kW I6 and 179kW four-cylinder engines and, in G6E Turbo form, the 270kW/533Nm turbocharged 4.0 litre I6.

For the XR6, there’s the 195kW I6 and 198kW LPG I6, while the XR6 Turbo gets the 270kW turbocharged I6.

The Falcon and XR6 utes get the 195kW I6 and 198kW LPG I6, the XR6 Turbo ute is powered by the 270kW turbocharged I6.

Six-speed manual and auto transmissions are available with the XR6 models, while the regular Falcon models get a six-speed auto.

Engine details for the XR8 are still be revealed, although it is believed the FPV-powering 5.0 litre supercharged V8 will provide motivation.
