Porsche has announced a recall of all 911 GT3 models sold worldwide in 2014, including five sold to Australian customers.

The recall follows engine fires in two 911 GT3s - one each in Italy and Switzerland - with engineers at Porsche HQ in Stuttgart currently examining the burnt-out remains for answers.

As a result, Porsche has urged all customers not to drive their 2014 911 GT3s, offering instead to collect the cars to transport them to a Porsche Centre.

Porsche stresses that no traffic incidents or injury resulted from the two fires, and it hopes to have some answers by the end of this week.

Other 911 models beyond the GT3 are unaffected at this stage.

The German carmaker has registered 785 sales worldwide for its 911 GT3 so far this year.
