Mitsubishi's new Outlander has been a solid performer in Australia, moving 869 units in August, growing year-to-date sales to 7056.

The segment is awash with new offerings however, and the Outlander is trailing more than a few of them. Mazda's CX-5 leads the segment on 13,645 sales, followed by Toyota's RAV4 (10,940), Honda's CR-V (9319) and the Subaru Forester (9015).

This week, the carmaker has moved to boost the appeal of its second-best seller (behind the Lancer), blessing the Outlander with upgraded standard equipment lists and new pricing.

For the 2014 model year, all variants now roll on 18-inch alloys, and black roof rails are now standard.

The entry-level Outlander ES picks up $1500 in features from the Mitsubishi catalogue, while shaving its price from $28,990 to $27,640 plus on-roads (2.0 petrol, manual, 2WD).

Standard features for the ES in 2014 include a 6.1-inch display system with reversing camera and sensors. The package also includes Bluetooth/USB/iPod/auxiliary audio control and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

The mid-range LS gains the Mitsubishi Multi Communication System (MMCS) as standard, with a seven-inch touch display and satellite navigation with 3D mapping, along with automatic wipers and headlights.

At the top of the line, the Aspire model adds an electric sunroof, along with features from the 2013MY 'Premium Pack', including HID headlights, power tailgate, MMCS with sat-nav, Forward Collision Mitigation and Adaptive Cruise Control.

The 2014 Outlander range's mechanical package remains unchanged, with 2.0 and 2.4 litre petrol engines and a 2.2 litre diesel among the powertrain options.
