The new images confirm the evolutionary style-direction hinted at by the patent office images leaked in July, but Maserati remains coy on specific details.
Design-wise, the previous model’s side profile is clearly referenced, along with the triangular C-pillar, side vents and contemporary Maserati gaping grille.
New details include a pronounced beltline running the length of the car, while the side windows are now frameless, with a third window extending into each C-pillar.
Maserati has confirmed that the new model is much larger than the previous Quattroporte, boosting interior space, but also boasts a drastic weight reduction thanks to the use of lightweight materials.
It remains unclear whether these lightweight materials are aluminium, composites, high-strength steel, or combinations thereof.
The Quattroporte will use at least two new engines, engineered by Maserati but built by Ferrari in Maranello.
A V8 engine is the only powertrain shown for now, with a forced-induction V6 expected as an entry-level option.
"Passion and state-of-the-art technology, have produced engines that are not only more powerful than ever, or more exciting to drive than ever – but also more fuel efficient than ever before", Maserati powertrain boss Paolo Martinelli said.
Maserati also claims that the chassis is capable of accepting a wide range of engine architectures, suggesting that a version of Ferrari’s hybrid system will make an appearance at some point.
“Maserati stands today at the edge of an unparalleled strategic and industrial growth that will see our presence in the world rise to 50,000 units a year by 2015", Maserati CEO Harald Wester said.
“This exciting progression will make the new Maserati a true global player with two new production sites in two different continents and a heart solidly planted in Modena, Italy, where our roots are.”
