Hyundai has revealed its HCD-14 concept in Detroit today, showcasing a fresh new design direction that will take the Korean automaker down a more conservative - but still visually appealing - path.

According to industry pundits, the HCD-14 will form the basis for the next generation Hyundai Genesis, while also likely informing the look of other new models.

And, unlike the current Genesis sedan and coupe, the new Genesis will be produced in both left and right-hand drive, making exports to Australia likely.

While engine details are currently still under wraps, the HCD-14 takes its power to the rear wheels - like the current Genesis - and places an emphasis on driving dynamics and more high-end aesthetics.

Its fastback roof may not make it the most practical four-door around, but it definitely makes for a very attractive silhouette.
