According to a recent Autocar report, Audi is aiming its next TT squarely at the Porsche Boxster.
With the third generation TT expected in 2014, Audi engineers are believed to be working on a lighter, more nimble, driver-focused machine.
Built on the Volkswagen Group's new MQB transverse-engine architecture, the new TT will make even more use of lightweight aluminium in its construction, with aluminium bulkheads and floor-pans as well a mostly aluminium body-shell being used.
Powering the more agile TT will be updated and more powerful versions of the current four and five-cylinder turbo-charged engines.
One aspect that won’t change to more-closely mirror the Boxster is the TT’s drive arrangements; front-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive will continue as the two available drive options.
Stylistically the new TT is said to be “more technical looking” and will no-doubt feature the latest version of Audi’s corporate grille.
The TT Coupe is due to launch sometime in 2014, with a convertible version expected to follow within twelve months.
